These are the rules of the Current Music Competition.
Countries
- Every country that is recognized by the United Nations is eligible to participate in the contest.
- The following countries are not fully recognized by the UN but are still allowed to compete:
- Faroe Islands
- Hong Kong
- Kosovo
- Palestine
- Puerto Rico
- Taiwan (Republic of China)
- There are no borrowing countries.
- The maximum number of participants is 30.
- Since a few artists couldn't compete in the contest according to the rules, the "Independent International Artists" were introduced after the 19th edition. They are treated like a country and only groups that don't have 1/3 of the members from a specific country (like Now United, a group whose members are all from different countries) can represent the IIA.
Artists
- The competing artists have to have a strong connection to the country they participate for. A "strong connection" is defined as:
- Being born in the country
- Currently living in the country
- Having lived in the country for at least 1/3 of their life
- Being raised in the country
- Having at least one parent from the country
- Groups and bands: 33% of the members are from the country
- An artist can represent only one country in one edition.
- The artists can be any age.
Entries
- Entries can be any language (even fictional) or official instrumentals.
- The relevance of entries must be under two months old.
- (Junior) Eurovision (Asia) Song Contest entries and songs from their preselections are not allowed.
- (Un-)official covers are not allowed.
- A different version/remix of a song by the original artist is allowed, regardless of when it was first released.
- The duration of entries must be at least 25 seconds for recap purposes.
- National selections are allowed.
- Once a song was submitted and approved by the reference group, it can only be changed once.
Voting
- The votes mustn't be published before the edition ends.
- A country must post its top 10 (1-8, 10, 12 points) under the recap video on the contest's official YouTube channel or in a direct message to Cedric on Discord.
- If a country doesn't vote in time, it will receive a strike and lose 25% of their points unless the Head of Delegation gives a good reason (unforeseeable reasons like a disease or death of a close person). Not having time because of school / work is not considered a valid reason. If a player has three strikes, they will be banned from the contest for two editions.
- A delegation can prevent getting a strike by finding a replacement voter who will vote in place of them. The replacment voter must not be a current participant.
